Job summary

Oldham Engineering Ltd in Oldham, Greater Manchester, is seeking an experienced MIG/MAG Welder/Fabricator with pipework experience to join our heavy engineering team. You will weld on mild and carbon steels, read drawings, and contribute to pipework contracts and general fabrication projects.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record in welding to high standards, can work across pipework and structural steelwork, and remains committed to safe workshop practices.

Qualifications

• Proven MIG/MAG welding experience in an engineering or fabrication environment.
• Pipe welding or pipework fabrication experience.
• Experience with mild steel and carbon steel.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with general steel fabrication, structural welding or heavy engineering.
• Competence in weld preparation and producing high-quality welds.
• Flexibility to work across pipework contracts and general fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG/MAG welding on mild steel, carbon steel and fabricated components.
• Undertake pipe welding and pipework fabrication for upcoming industrial contracts.
• Perform welding on heavy steel fabrications, structural components and engineering assemblies.
• Prepare, fit, tack and weld pipework and fabricated steel components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and fabrication specifications.
• Carry out positional welding, butt welds, fillet welds and multi-run welding where required.
• Undertake general fabrication, including cutting, grinding, joint preparation and assembly.
• Use appropriate welding procedures to maintain high standards of weld quality.
• Work on a mixture of specialist pipework projects and ongoing general fabrication work.
• Maintain safe working practices within the workshop.
