Oldham Engineering Ltd is seeking an experienced MIG/MAG Welder/Fabricator to join its team in Oldham. The role focuses on pipe welding and heavy fabrication within an established heavy engineering environment.

You will work on a major pipework contract while supporting general MIG/MAG fabrication projects across structural steelwork and industrial assemblies. Experience across pipework, heavy fabrication, and coded welding is valued.

Qualifications

• Proven MIG/MAG welding experience in heavy engineering/fabrication.
• Ability to weld pipework and read engineering drawings from specifications.
• Experience with mild/carbon steel and general fabrication workflows.
• Flexibility to work on pipework contracts and general MIG/MAG fabrication.

Responsabilités

• Carry out MIG/MAG welding on mild and carbon steel components.
• Undertake pipe welding and pipework fabrication for contracts.
• Perform welding on heavy fabrications and structural components.
• Prepare, fit, tack and weld pipework and fabricated steel components.
• Read and interpret drawings and welding symbols per specs.
• Carry out positional welding and multi-run welds as required.
• Undertake general fabrication including cutting and grinding.
• Maintain high weld quality using appropriate procedures.
• Work across pipework projects and wider fabrication workload.
• Maintain safe working practices in the workshop.

About the Role

We are recruiting experienced MIG/MAG Welders / Fabricators with pipe welding experience to join an established heavy engineering and manufacturing company based in Oldham.

The company has a major pipework contract coming up, alongside an established workload of general MIG/MAG welding, heavy steel fabrication and industrial engineering projects.

The ideal candidate will have a versatile welding background, with the ability to undertake pipe welding when required while also being confident working on general MIG/MAG fabrication projects.

This position would suit an experienced Welder/Fabricator who has worked across structural steelwork, industrial pipework, heavy engineering or coded welding applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG/MAG welding on mild steel, carbon steel and fabricated components.
• Undertake pipe welding and pipework fabrication for upcoming industrial contracts.
• Perform welding on heavy steel fabrications, structural components and engineering assemblies.
• Prepare, fit, tack and weld pipework and fabricated steel components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and fabrication specifications.
• Carry out positional welding, butt welds, fillet welds and multi-run welding where required.
• Undertake general fabrication, including cutting, grinding, joint preparation and assembly.
• Use appropriate welding procedures to maintain high standards of weld quality.
• Work on a mixture of specialist pipework projects and ongoing general fabrication work.
• Maintain safe working practices within the workshop.

Essential Requirements

• Proven MIG/MAG welding experience in an engineering or fabrication environment.
• Previous pipe welding or pipework fabrication experience.
• Experience working with mild steel and carbon steel.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with general steel fabrication, structural welding or heavy engineering.
• Competence in weld preparation, fit-up and producing high-quality welds.
• Flexibility to work across both pipework contracts and general MIG/MAG fabrication.

Desirable Experience

• Coded pipe welding qualifications, including 6G.
• TIG and/or MMA pipe welding experience.
• Flux-core welding (FCAW / 136).
• MIG/MAG process 135 experience.
• Heavy plate welding and multi-run welding.
• Pressure vessels, industrial pipework or process piping.
• Structural steel fabrication and plating.
• Welding to approved WPS specifications.
• Overhead crane and fabrication machinery experience.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in experienced welders who combine pipe welding capability with strong general MIG/MAG experience.

The company has significant upcoming pipework requirements, but also needs someone capable of working across its wider heavy engineering and fabrication workload once specific contracts are completed.
