We have a number of permanent Band 6 posts available in our Midwifery team at Ormskirk Hospital. Our posts are rotational throughout the service and would give the successful candidate the opportunity to work with us as we move forward in implementing the Ockenden requirements.

Job DescriptionJob responsibilitiesCLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Adhere to the NMC Rules and Code of Practice at all times and abide by the Code of Professional Practice.
- Accept responsibility for personal, professional and education needs, including the attendance on in-services training and statutory study days.
- To support and empower women throughout pregnancy and postnatal childbirth experience enabling them to make informed choice about their care, which is safe, effective and evidence based.

- To participate with audit and research within Maternity Services.
- Provide sensitive and appropriate support for bereaved parents and demanding family situations.
- Actively promote health promotion issues and participate in parent education.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Promote effective communication within the multi-professional teams, the public and other agencies.
- Act as a mentor to Student Midwives/Nurses and provide support for more Junior staff.
- Helps in the maintenance of a safe working environment and identifies problems to the immediate Manager/shift leader.
- To comply with Maternity Services guidance on security of the newborn and baby Tagging security system.
- To participate in the formulation of policies and protocols relevant to the Speciality.
- To provide leadership and support of the shift and oversee the Maternity Unit out of hours in the absence of the Delivery Suite Shift Leader as required.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered Midwife, with current NMC registration.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, or willing to work towards.
Desirable- Recognised Teaching/Mentorship Qualification.
Knowledge & ExperienceEssential- Knowledge of current Midwifery issues.
- Knowledge of current Government NHS Agenda relevant to Maternity Services.
- Knowledge and understanding of the assessment process for Students, and of creating a positive learning environment.
- Knowledge and awareness of professional responsibilities.
- Substantial post registration experience.
Desirable- Substantial post registration experience across all Maternity Pathways.
SkillsEssential- Excellent communication skills.

OtherEssential- Evidence of fulfilling PREP.
