Job description

To contribute to the provision of evidence-based professional midwifery services.

To provide high quality holistic perinatal midwifery care sensitive to the needs of the woman, birthing person and their families.

To work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of carer according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved.

To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway.

To act as a clinical role model and practice autonomously within the parameters of local and national guidance and sphere of professional practice, adhering at all times to The Code for Nurses and Midwives (NMC, 2018) and working within the policies and standards detailed by the Trust.

The post holder will complete the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Local Maternity & Neonatal System (WY&H LMNS) preceptorship package with support and as part of their professional development and transition to Band 6.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for providing personalised, continuous antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating targeted programmes of care for women, birthing people and their families as an autonomous practitioner.
• To facilitate the delivery of care ensuring information is communicated in a clear and unbiased way to facilitate informed decision making.
• To provide midwifery advice and support to students to support women, birthing people and their families in making informed choices around their care.
• To assist in setting, maintaining and improving the standards of midwifery care within the Trust.
• To act as a clinical role model and practice autonomously within the parameters of local and national guidance and sphere of professional practice, adhering at all times to The Code for Nurses and Midwives (NMC, 2018) and working within the policies and standards detailed by the Trust.
• To liaise with and maintain good relationships and communication with midwifery colleagues.
• To seek advice and support from senior colleagues where appropriate using channels of escalation as required.
• To liaise and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies where appropriate.
• To participate in research/evidence based practice.
• To enhance clinical skills in all aspects of midwifery which includes own professional development and attendance on all mandatory study days.
• To maintain and develop own personal professional portfolio.
• To be aware of and participate in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust clinical risk strategies, including guidelines and incident reporting.
• To maintain high standards of documentation within Trust guidelines.
• To ensure that all equipment is in good working order, to have accessed training and have a knowledge of how to use it correctly.
• To liaise with the ward/department manager and report any changes or events which may affect patient care in their absence.
• To participate in quality/audit initiatives.
• To delegate and undertake other duties as appropriate and necessary.
• To participate in Individual Performance Reviews and to agree objectives with the ward/department manager.
