Job summary

RAC is looking for a Mid-Level Frontend Software Engineer to join the Digital Product and Technology team in Bristol. You will design, build and evolve digital experiences used by millions of customers, working with JavaScript, React, Azure and Kubernetes to deliver scalable solutions.

You’ll contribute to technical design decisions, manage technical debt, and promote best practices while delivering new features and improving existing applications.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of frameworks, tools and best practices used in building React/NextJS frontends.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient with patterns on engineering practice, event-driven design and service-to-service communication.
  • Good understanding of agile software development methodologies and lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality software and architecture.
  • Troubleshoot operational and integration issues.
  • Write clean, high-quality code and deliver value to customers.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and ensure tools are fit for purpose.
  • Develop solutions using JavaScript and React with Azure and Kubernetes.
  • Interface with the business to interpret complex requests.
  • Provide accurate estimates and challenge existing estimates to deliver value.
  • Own technical debt and prioritise accordingly.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Mid-Level Frontend Software Engineer to join our Digital Product and Technology team in Bristol.

As part of a collaborative product team, you'll help design, build and evolve the digital experiences used by millions of customers. Working with JavaScript, React, Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes, you'll develop scalable, high-quality solutions that bring products to life and create real value for our customers.

You'll play an important role in delivering new features and products, enhancing existing applications and continuously improving our frontend codebases. From contributing to technical design decisions and solving complex engineering challenges to managing technical debt and promoting best practice, you'll have the opportunity to influence how we build software and deliver exceptional digital experiences.

What you’ll do

On a day-to-day basis you will be taking ownership in contributing to; and creating, technical designs, innovative solutions and practical recommendations to immediate teams and the rest of the technology function. As wellas;

  • Develop high-quality software and architecture
  • Perform troubleshooting of operational and integration issues
  • Attention to detail when writing code and obsessing over delivering high quality solutions to customers
  • Keep up to date on emerging technologies ensuring any new tools adopted in the RAC are fit for purpose and commercially appropriate
  • Develop solutions usingJavaScript and React alongside proficiency with the Azure Cloud Environment and Kubernetes
  • Able tointerface with the business and make sense of complicated or incomplete requests.
  • Provideaccurateestimates for business initiatives at concept as well as challenging existing estimates to ensurewe’reroutinely delivering value
  • Able to own technical debt across the technology stack and make practical assessments about the relevant priorities.
What you’ll need
  • In depth knowledge of frameworks, tools and best practises used in building React/NextJS frontends.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a very dynamic and timeline sensitive work environment.
  • Proficient with industry standard patterns on great engineering practice (including but not all), event driven design, service to service communication, redux pattern and component reusability.
  • Good understanding of agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of best practice in the software engineering lifecycle.
  • Understanding of and a passion for automation
  • Must have good stakeholder management, communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • An allergy to duplication and proactively seeks conversations to delete/consolidate duplicate technology
  • Ability to deal with multiple projects and deadlines.
