Job description

The Microbiologist will manage the Microbiological laboratory ensuring that any testing is performed in a timely manner. Ensuring that Microbiological lab is resourced and equipped.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assisting QC Manager in ensuring the development and implementation of robust working practices within the laboratory environment.
  • Organising routine activities of the micro lab to meet operational requirements.
  • Performing laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data/results.
  • Provide quality metrics information and reports relating to the microbiological laboratory.
  • Ensuring that all testing is performed in-line with the cGMP, HSE and internal procedures.
  • Recording, analysing and interpreting of Microbiological data.
  • Ensuring data is recorded accurately and in accordance with guidelines.
  • Writing protocols and reports for microbiological testing where required.
  • Work flexibly within the QC team to ensure all tasks completed in an appropriate timeframe.
  • Experience of participating in self-inspections, Quality based investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability.
  • Ensuring that data is recorded accurately and following the principles of Data integrity requirements.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Experience in performing Quality based investigations, Out of specification (OOS) and out of trend investigations and to ascertain root cause for the failure.
  • Maintaining operating standards for laboratory equipment.
  • Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked for performing the tests.
  • Maintain laboratory and other associated areas in a presentable condition ready to be audited at any time.
  • Carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
  • Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are established and maintained.
  • Maintaining the Microbiological procedures in-line with the pharmacopeial and MA requirements.
  • To adhere to the principles of and where possible look to improve the Data integrity within the QC lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your Experience & Skills
  • Having worked in a similar Pharma, FMCG or highly regulatory production environment, you’ll be able to demonstrate:
  • Previous experience in microbiology testing.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • IT literate in Microsoft Software Packages, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A professional standard at all times.
  • Punctuality, politeness and courteousness to others at all times.
  • Adhere to the Company’s policies and procedures at all times.
  • Clear, accurate and concise record keeping.
  • Commitment, enthusiasm and passion.
  • You’ll need to be educated to GCSE standard (A-C equivalent) in English, Maths and Science; and ideally have a Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Pharmacy.
  • Data integrity and GMP knowledge.
  • Understanding and commitment to good housekeeping.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist.
  • Ways to continually improve current work activity.
  • Working experience assisting within a Pharmaceutical Company in a similar role.
  • Previous experience assisting with self inspections and regulatory inspections.
  • Good working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety Regulations and MHRA guidelines.
  • Good working knowledge of pharmacy market and products.

Hours and working arrangements:
  • This is a permanent role, and full time (37.5hrs per week). Your daily hours (7.5) will be worked alongside the full Lab team, from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
  • There are occasionally opportunities for overtime during busy periods.
  • Given the nature of the role, you’ll be working on-site.
