About usThe Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders.
The Queen Square Brain Bank (QSBB), based in the Department, houses one of the largest collections of brains with neurodegenerative diseases in Europe. This unique tissue resource was established through generous donation by patients and with the support of their families. The QSBB has well-established protocols for brain donation and prospectively collects cohorts from the PROSPECT study and MRC 1946 cohorts and other bespoke cohorts of neurodegenerative disease including chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
About the roleWe have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Anatomical Pathological Research Technician to join the team at the QSBB. You will assist with the curation of a unique human post-mortem nervous system tissue resource, helping to advance diagnostics and research in neurodegenerative diseases.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including histology and research technicians, administrators, neuroscientists, and clinicians at the QSBB-one of the oldest and largest brain banks in the world.
An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.
The role is available immediately and is funded by a grant from the Reta Lila Weston Trust for two years in the first instance.

About youYou will have a degree in Biomedical Science, Anatomy, or a related discipline, along with proven experience working in mortuaries as an Anatomical Pathology Technician. General laboratory competence and a strong understanding of laboratory and mortuary safety standards, quality control procedures, and relevant NHS regulatory requirements are essential. Equally important is the proven ability to deliver work to agreed standards, demonstrating a methodical and reliable approach, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
