Infinitesima in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, is seeking a Metrology Systems Engineer to own metrology performance across a multi-disciplinary AFM-based instrument. You will translate customer needs into measurable specifications, build performance budgets, and guide engineering trade-offs to deliver robust measurements.
The role requires 5–10 years in complex instrumentation, with experience in AFM, metrology, and data analysis using Python/MATLAB/Excel.
Salary: £51,000- £59,000depending on experience + Private Health + Death in Service (x3 your salary)
Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Working pattern: On site during probation, with hybrid flexibility where possible after that

Infinitesimabuilds advanced metrology instruments that help enable the next generation of semiconductor devices. Our high-throughput AFM platform, Metron, is used in productionfabenvironments where accuracy, repeatability and confidence in the data are non-negotiable. This role owns height accuracy and height repeatability system functions for Metron.
We are looking for a Metrology Systems Engineer to take ownership of metrology performance across a complex, multi-disciplinary instrument. This is not a narrow test role. You will be translating customer and stakeholder needs into measurable specifications, building performance budgets, proving the system delivers, and helping engineering teams make the right technical trade-offs.
You will work closely with system function architects and development teams across optics, mechanics, electronics, controlsystemsand software. The role gives real technical influence across the wider engineering team, particularly around specification, budgeting, validation, dataanalysisand performance improvement.
What you will be doing

You will probably come from a background in complex instrumentation, precision measurement, scientific equipment, semiconductor tools, AFM, nano-characterisation or advanced metrology. We are looking for around 5 - 10 years of industry experience within a relevant field.
You will need experience with:
It would be useful if you also have experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy, Focused Ion Beam, profilometry, measurement uncertainty methods, gauge R&R, measurement systems analysis,C#or Python-based test automation.
