Job summary

Wabtec Corporation in Birkenhead is seeking a motivated Methods Engineer to optimise manufacturing processes and deliver robust work flows and instructions. You will liaise between Operations and Engineering, designing tools and layouts, evaluating drawings, and driving improvements across programs.

You will contribute to safety, lean practices, and efficient capacity planning while developing business cases and delivering presentations to management.

Qualifications

• HNC/Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
• Production/Methods Engineering experience in production environments.
• Experience working in a Lean environment.
• MRP experience and use of problem-solving tools (QRQC, 5Y, Ishikawa, 8D, line layouts).
• IT literacy and proficiency with Microsoft applications.
• Strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as a key link between Operations and the Engineering team.
• Support Operations with cost-effective manufacturing systems for new and existing programs.
• Optimize assembly and manufacturing processes through study and implementation of improvements.
• Design and install tools, fixtures, test rigs and jigs.
• Read, interpret and evaluate drawings, models and designs for assembly and manufacture.
• Review new technologies to improve capacity and quality.
• Develop business cases and recommendations for management review.
• Lead improvement projects and present to managers and staff.
• Investigate complex production problems and propose corrective solutions.
• Measure and analyse standard times and implement improvements.
• Ensure equipment meets specifications and tolerances; support capacity planning.

Job description

The key aim of the role is to optimise the assembly and manufacturing process by studying product and manufacturing methods, designing, and delivering robust process flows and work instructions. Provide cost effective manufacturing processes for new and existing programs. The Methods Engineer is the liaison with the Engineering team. What will your typical day look like?

• This role will serve as a key link between Operations and the Engineering team.
• Supporting the Operations team in providing cost-effective manufacturing systems for new and existing programs.
• Optimise the assembly and manufacturing process by studying product and manufacturing methods, then designing and implementing improvements.
• Design and install tools, fixtures, test rigs, and jigs to assist the manufacturing process.
• Read, interpret, and evaluate drawings, models, and designs for assembly and manufacture.
• Review new technologies to improve capacity/quality.
• Develop business cases and recommendations for management review.
• Lead improvement projects and give presentations to managers and staff.
• Support Production with the investigation of complex problems, analyse, and recommend corrective solutions or improvements to ensure proper production flow.
• Measure and analyse standard times, recommending and implementing improvements.
• Ensure all equipment purchased and commissioned meets specific and corporate specifications and can function within required tolerances and capacity.
  HNC/Degree in an Engineering discipline
• Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
• Production/Methods Engineering experience in production environments.
• Worked within a Lean environment.
• MRP experience, use of problem-solving tools e.g., QRQC, 5Y, Ishikawa, 8D, design of line layouts.
• IT literate and fully conversant with Microsoft applications.
