Job summary

Wabtec UK based in Burton upon Trent seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Bogies & Wheelsets team. You will apply mechanical engineering expertise to deliver safe, reliable solutions for railway systems and support customer projects.

The role covers producing and checking technical drawings and documents, managing tasks to schedule, supporting tender activities, and interfacing with customers and suppliers. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Rail experience preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering knowledge, experience and skills to Wabtec UK.
• Produce and check technical documentation and drawings including calculations, ECOs, EOms, maintenance manuals, PQs, bulletins, instructions and wheelset data sheets.
• Ensure tasks are completed in line with timescales as agreed with Engineering management.
• Support the Wabtec UK tender process.
• Interface with external and internal customers on project progress and issues.
• Maintain Engineering project plans and track deliverables.

Who will you be working with?

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Wabtec UK based in Burton on Trent we support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

How will you make a difference?

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical expertise for our product group. You’ll deliver engineering solutions that improve safety, reliability, and performance, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

What will your typical day look like?

• Provide mechanical engineering knowledge, experience and skills to Wabtec UK.
• Produce and check technical documentation and drawings including but not limited to, calculations, concessions, drawings, Engineering bill of materials (EBoMs), Engineering change orders (ECOs), maintenance manuals, production queries (PQs), technical bulletins, technical instructions, technical reports, technical specifications, technical queries (TQs), work instructions and wheelset data sheets.
• Ensure assigned tasks are completed in line with timescales as agreed with Engineering management.
• Support the Wabtec UK tender process.
• Interface with external and internal customers on engineering project progress and issues.
• Maintain Engineering project plans and track Engineering deliverables.

What do we want to know about you?

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience in mechanical engineering (rail experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of specification, design, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in CAD and MS Office tools.
• Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to work independently and travel to customer/supplier sites as required.
