Job summary

Wabtec Napier Turbocharger in Lincoln invites applications for a Manufacturing Engineer. You will leverage CNC programming expertise and lean manufacturing principles to lead projects, develop routings, and drive cost reductions across multiple departments.

The role requires problem solving, teamwork, and the ability to work in a high-precision, low-volume environment. The successful candidate will have an engineering background (HNC or equivalent) and experience with modern machining

Qualifications

  • Ideally qualified to HNC level or above in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in a modern manufacturing facility with CNC programming and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX (CAM) and Hypermill is advantageous.
  • Understanding Lean manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Computer literacy across common software platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects in Manufacturing, delivering on time and within budget.
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Routings, Layouts and work instructions.
  • Investigate non-conformances via root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Oversee inspection activities and non-conformance reporting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Design, Quality, Procurement and external suppliers.
  • Define and procure jigs, fixtures, tooling, gauging and lifting equipment.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives and NC programming for multi-axis machines.
  • Program CMMs using PC-DMIS.

Who will you be working with? Napier Turbocharger, a Wabtec Company, is looking for a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team. We design, manufacture, and test industrial turbochargers for the power generation, marine, and rail traction industries.

How will you make a difference?

Knowledge of modern machining and manufacturing processes, NC programming, ideally from a low-volume, high accuracy manufacturing environment e.g., Aerospace, Power Generation. Candidates must be highly motivated, be a good problem solver and be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Lead and manage projects within Manufacturing taking responsibility for delivery, project planning, execution and cost.
  • Creation and maintenance of supporting documentation to include Manufacturing Routings, Layouts and instructions.
  • Define, perform and implement investigations into non-conformance through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Inspection activities including the creation of non-conformance reports, in process and final inspection protocols.
  • Work cross functionally with different departments such as Design, Quality, Procurement and external suppliers.
  • Define and procure jigs, fixtures, tooling, gauging and lifting equipment.
  • Generate and implement cost reduction initiatives.
  • NC programming of multi-axis Turning, Milling, Grinding and EDM machines.
  • Programming of CMMs using PC-DMIS.
What do we want to know about you?
  • Ideally you will be qualified to HNC level or above in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with having undergone relevant training as Manufacturing Technician/ Engineer
  • Experience in a modern manufacturing facility with a good understanding of modern machining techniques, plus problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Siemens NX (CAM) and Hypermill would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Computer/ software literate
