Job summary

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is seeking a Meter Reader for Caernarfon/Conwy area to capture water meter readings using handheld devices and to ensure customers receive accurate bills. Responsibilities

  • Capture water meter readings in line with the schedule using the handheld unit.
  • Transmit meter data and handle reads with anomalies.
  • Record reasons for unread meters per guidelines.
  • Place meters into efficient walk order routes for reading.
  • Perform non-cyclical readings and respond to system requests.
  • Disconect water supply on instructions from Commercial Collections.
  • Conduct checks on disconnected supplies and escalate any returns.
  • Support KPI delivery for DG8 meter reading.
  • Maintain relationships with operational partners across the business.
  • Perform dynamic risk assessments before field visits.
  • Log near misses and hazards per health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure company vehicle is maintained and defects escalated.
  • Log into Lone Working system as required.
  • Undertake other duties to meet business needs.

What you'll be responsible for

Capturing all meter reading data in line with the Field Operations meter-reading schedule in order to ensure the customer receives an accurate and timely bill and to avoid unwanted contacts and complaints. Undertaking any ad hoc field visits that have been requested to either, disconnect the water supply, or to obtain further information as required by the Company in order to resolve a customer query or dispute. This will include:

  • Capturing water meter reading data from water customer’s meters, using the hand held unit, within set timescales as directed by the cyclical meter reading schedule
  • Receiving and transmitting meter reading data via a handheld unit
  • Identifying unexpected water meter reads, such as higher or lower water consumption profile, and recording this additional information onto the handheld device in line with the Automated Meter Reading guidelines
  • Providing a reason for any water meter that was unable to be read within the schedule, in line with the Automated Meter Reading guidelines
  • Placing all water meters into a walk order route that optimises the volume of water meters read
  • Carrying out non-cyclical meter reading activity in line with automated system order requests and within the set timescales
  • Disconnecting the water supply on commercial properties as instructed by the Commercial Collections Department
  • Undertaking supply checks on water supplies that have been disconnected for non-payment of water charges, in line with company guidelines and timeframes, and to immediately escalated any situation, where the water supply has turned back on, to theCommercial Collections Team for further instruction
  • Adopting best practice on operational performance to help support the delivery of the department’s KPI for DG8 meter reading
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with our operational partners across other parts of the business to ensure objectives are supported and delivered
  • Proactively undertaking a dynamic risk assessment at each field visit to ensure a safe working environment prior to undertaking each activity
  • Reporting all near misses and hazards that could cause potential harm, in line with the Company health and safety process and procedures
  • Ensuring the company vehicle is regularly checked in line with company policy and that any vehicle defects are immediately escalated in line with transport guidelines
  • Logging into the Lone Working system, at all times, in line with company guidelines
  • Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business
About you
  • Full driving licence
  • Demonstrate experience in first time resolution of issue to be able to support internal performance measures and company goals
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
Good to know
  • 37 hours per week. Flexible working is available between 06:00 and 20:00, Monday to Sunday, and will be agreed on an individual basis. To ensure operational coverage, employees must work a minimum of 4 hours on each weekday (Monday to Friday).
  • Hold a full UK driving licence with no disqualifications or serious driving convictions. Any current penalty points must be declared and will be assessed as part of the recruitment process. The Successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment screening, including employment, identity, right-to-work and credit reference checks (including Experian), before any appointment is confirmed.
  • A Company van will be provided
  • This is a physically demanding role that involves extensive walking across varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Candidates must be physically fit and capable of carrying out these duties safely and effectively.
  • To support operational efficiencies you must live in or within a 10 mile radius of Conwy valley/Colwyn Bay
