About The Role

This is an exciting role within our Meter Field Services team, working within a high performing team ensuring timely and accurate meter readings are taken to enable our customers to be billed for the water they use.

Delivering an unrivalled customer experience is critical to the success in our business ambition to be the national leader within the water industry. This role requires an individual who is demonstrably passionate about providing the best possible levels of customer service.

You will work as part of a team to deliver a field-based meter reading service, in a way which supports our measured billing process, identifying and reporting any issues you may find to support a quick first-time resolution.

We’ll provide you with the opportunity and support to learn and develop skills which will enable you to succeed within the role.

As a Meter Reader you will undertake timely and accurate meter reads across our region, provide excellent customer service including answering questions about water consumption, accurately record and document your findings with an electric device and manage your day to achieve productivity and quality targets.

This role has been defined as a safety or security critical role, and as a condition of a formal offer of employment, you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.

Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to, or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.

About You

Our Meter Readers are the face of Northumbrian Water, so we are looking for you to bring the ability to engage and communicate with people, along with a passion and enthusiasm to make a difference to our customers.

You will have a positive and flexible approach to ensure deadlines are met within a busy day and you will ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner for yourself, colleagues and customers, in line with our Health and Safety policies.

You will be comfortable working alone for most of your day with minimal supervision and you will be happy working outside in all conditions. You will be able to meet the physical demands of this role as our meter readers can walk considerable distances each day. You will also be able to bend, twist, kneel and crouch as you will lift many meter covers each day.

You will have proven experience of using your initiative, with a high level of attention to detail, as you will be recording job completion details using an electronic device.

As a company van is provided, you must have a full manual UK driving licence and be willing to undertake a DBS check as an entry to premises card is required for this role.
