Job summary

Auto Skills UK is assisting a York-based vehicle repair business to recruit an MET Technician. The role focuses on mechanical, electrical and trim work on accident-damaged vehicles in a professional bodyshop setting.

The ideal candidate will have a recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle MET/METrim, with strong hands-on experience and attention to detail. Full-time, permanent position with standard hours and optional Saturday work.

Qualifications

• Experience as MET Technician or similar in a professional bodyshop or accident repair.
• Strong knowledge across mechanical, electrical and trim systems.
• NVQ/IMI/ATA-type qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical, electrical and trim repairs to accident-damaged vehicles.
• Remove and refit mechanical, electrical and interior components.
• Perform diagnostic checks and identify faults when needed.
• Work with panel beaters and other bodyshop staff through repairs.
• Ensure components are fitted, aligned and functioning before finish.

MET (MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL & TRIM) TECHNICIAN

Location: York
Salary: £54,500 - £59,500+ DOE
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm depending on business needs, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays, 8:00am - 12:00pm

THE ROLE

As an MET Technician, you'll be responsible for carrying out mechanical, electrical and trim work on accident-damaged vehicles, ensuring components are removed, repaired and refitted correctly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out mechanical, electrical and trim repairs to accident-damaged vehicles.
• Removing and refitting mechanical, electrical and interior components.
• Carrying out diagnostic checks and identifying faults where required.
• Working closely with Panel Beaters and other Bodyshop technicians throughout the repair process.
• Ensuring components are correctly fitted, aligned and functioning before vehicle completion.
• Using specialist tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Completing allocated repairs efficiently while maintaining excellent workmanship.
• Following relevant quality, safety and manufacturer repair procedures.

ABOUT YOU

This opportunity would suit an experienced MET Technician / Mechanical, Electrical & Trim Technician / Vehicle MET Technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and has strong practical knowledge across mechanical, electrical and trim systems.

You’ll ideally have:

• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (NVQ / IMI / SVQ / ATA), with a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Previous experience as an MET Technician within a professional Bodyshop or accident repair environment.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and trim knowledge.
• Experience removing and refitting vehicle components following accident damage.
• Good understanding of modern vehicle repair methods and systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering quality workmanship.
• Ability to work efficiently while maintaining consistently high standards.
• A full UK driving licence.
