Job summary

Auto Skills UK is seeking an experienced MET Technician to join a professional bodyshop environment in Reading. The role focuses on mechanical, electrical and trim work to repair accident-damaged vehicles.

The position offers an OTE of £60,000, with a basic salary of £45,000–£50,000 depending on experience. Working Monday to Friday, 7am to 4:30pm, it provides long-term career development and a stable permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (NVQ / IMI / SVQ / ATA).
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and vehicle trim knowledge.
• Experience with vehicle strip-down, component replacement, and refitting.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical, electrical, and trim strip and refit work on accident-damaged vehicles.
• Remove and replace damaged components in preparation for repairs.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues resulting from vehicle damage.
• Reassemble vehicles correctly following body and paint repairs.
• Carry out functional and safety checks to ensure vehicle systems operate correctly.
• Work closely with Panel Beaters, Paint Technicians, Vehicle Damage Assessors, and Workshop Controllers.
• Ensure repairs are completed in line with manufacturer methods and quality standards.
• Maintain tools, equipment and the working area in a clean, safe, professional condition.

THE ROLE

As an MET Technician, you'll be responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and trim aspects of vehicle repairs, ensuring components are safely removed, repaired or replaced, and correctly refitted throughout the accident repair process.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out mechanical, electrical, and trim strip and refit work on accident-damaged vehicles.

ABOUT YOU

This opportunity would suit an experienced MET Technician / Mechanical, Electrical & Trim Technician / Vehicle Technician / Bodyshop MET Technician with strong technical knowledge and attention to detail.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience as an MET (Mechanical, Electrical & Trim) Technician within a professional Bodyshop or accident repair environment.
• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (NVQ / IMI / SVQ / ATA).
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and vehicle trim knowledge.
• Experience with vehicle strip-down, component replacement, and refitting.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a skilled workshop team.
• A full UK driving licence.
• A commitment to continuous professional development.
