Job summary

TRIbuild Solutions is recruiting a freelance MEP Design Manager (Stage 5) for a major infrastructure tunnelling project. The role is inside IR35, based from North Acton with hybrid working (3 days in office, 2 at home).

The contractor will manage Stage 5 design deliverables, coordinate interface with design suppliers and ensure CDM and safety requirements are met. 6–9 months with strong potential to go permanent.

Qualifications

• Experience on major infrastructure projects is essential.
• Experience delivering Stage 5 design for Construction & Manufacturing.
• Valid CSCS card is required.

Responsibilities

• Management of supply chain Stage 5 design deliverables, ensuring quality and timely submission.
• Interface management between Stage 5 design suppliers and the Design Integrator.
• Management of Stage 5 supplier design queries, providing proactive and collaborative responses.
• Ensuring designs account for maintenance, and health, safety and welfare during construction and in-use.
• Reporting on design progress, risks and issues to the Package Manager (Delivery) and Commercial Package Manager.
• Identifying scope gaps and interface issues, supporting resolution.
• Supporting the commercial team in cost reconciliation and subcontract management.
• Coordinating design documentation review with relevant internal teams.
• Managing Stage 4 design queries, defects and resource allocation.
• Ensuring CDM requirements are communicated, implemented and appropriately risk-assessed throughout the design process.

Rate: £550-£650 per day (Inside IR35, via umbrella PAYE)

Contract Length: 6-9 months, likely extension, with strong potential to transition to a permanent role

This is a freelance, inside IR35 position based from a North Acton office on a hybrid working pattern, with genuine scope to move to a permanent position with the business for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Management of supply chain Stage 5 design deliverables, ensuring quality and timely submission
• Interface management between Stage 5 design suppliers and the Design Integrator
• Management of Stage 5 supplier design queries, providing proactive and collaborative responses
• Ensuring designs account for maintenance, and health, safety and welfare during construction and in-use

Essential Experience

• Proven experience on major infrastructure projects is essential
• Design management experience across Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) systems, ideally with HVAC design or delivery experience
• Experience of detailed design within an MEP setting
• Experience delivering Stage 5 (Design for Construction & Manufacturing) design
• Sound knowledge of relevant MEP design policies and standards
• Experience within a large-scale, self-assured design environment
• Experience managing CDM Regulations 2015 requirements within design
• Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, document control systems, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Projectwise)
• Strong communication skills, adaptable to different stakeholders
• Valid CSCS card

Desirable

• Degree or professional qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
• Familiarity with specialist MEP engineering software (e.g. Trimble Amtech)
• Knowledge of NEC construction contracts
