Job summary

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive Medical Secretary to support the Consultant Psychiatrist and medical team in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. The role involves producing clinical documentation, attending MDT meetings, and ensuring confidential handling of information.

The position requires minute-taking skills and experience in mental health settings, with NHS Trust experience preferred. Closing date: 20 October 2026.

Qualifications

• AMSpar qualification or equivalent administrative training.
• NVQ 3 in Business Administration or equivalent.
• RSA / OCR Level 3 qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Providing comprehensive secretarial support to the Consultant Psychiatrist and medical team.
• Attending MDT meetings and Ward Rounds and producing accurate notes and action records.
• Typing and processing clinical correspondence, reports, discharge summaries and referral letters.
• Liaising with ward staff, community teams, GPs, carers and external agencies.
• Maintaining patient records and ensuring information is accurately recorded on Trust systems.
• Responding to enquiries from internal and external stakeholders in a professional and confidential manner.
• Supporting the administration of Mental Health Act documentation, tribunal reports and other statutory processes as required.
• Ensuring all work is completed in line with information governance and confidentiality standards.
