Job summary

Optima Health is recruiting a GMC-registered Doctor to join our Armed Forces recruitment initiative in the UK. The role involves conducting Pre-Service Medical Assessments, evaluating fitness for entry, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of clinical governance.

Successful candidates will support the joint AFRS framework with MOD and partners, delivering a unified medical process for tri-service entry.

Qualifications

• GMC-registered doctor with current licence to practise.
• Experience in general medical examinations and reviewing medical records.
• Understanding of functional assessment and occupational health principles.
• Excellent communication, clinical judgement and documentation skills.
• Proficient with electronic medical record systems.
• Commitment to GMC appraisal, revalidation and CPD.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Pre-Service Medical Assessments in line with MOD/JSP 950.
• Assess candidates' physical and mental fitness for entry into Phase 1 training.
• Review medical histories and supporting evidence; refer complex cases.
• Make clear, fair clinical decisions on candidate fitness.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and reports.
• Communicate assessment outcomes clearly to candidates.
• Work with Lead Doctors, clinical and admin teams.
• Follow MOD standards and governance; participate in audits and training.
