Job summary

GE Aerospace in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop robust mechatronic solutions, integrating electronics, sensing and control concepts. You will drive manufacturability and deliverables across the engineering lifecycle, collaborating with mechanical, electrical and software disciplines.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical design, curiosity for cross-boundary work and the ability to contribute to a productive R&D

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
• Strong experience in mechanical component and assembly design using a range of manufacturing techniques.
• Experience across multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle.
• Experience collaborating effectively with other engineering disciplines.
• Experience in design for manufacture and assembly.
• Proven delivery of engineering solutions in a product development environment.
• Experience using 3D CAD packages, ideally Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in evolving technical environments.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in mechatronic systems, electromechanical integration or electronics-related product development.

Responsibilities

• Apply strong mechanical engineering and product design skills to solve complex technical problems and develop robust, manufacturable and innovative solutions.
• Support the development of mechatronic products and assemblies, including electronics integration and PCB-related design considerations.
• Work across lifecycle phases from requirements to implementation in line with business standards and product/program requirements.
• Proactively challenge established approaches and propose innovative solutions with sound engineering judgment.
• Use internal and external sources to inform decisions and solve problems.
• Support prototype build, workshop activities, fabrication, assembly and testing as required.
• Contribute to development of practical methods, standards and ways of working in emerging mechatronics activities.
• Support root cause investigations, design improvements and risk reduction activities.
• Travel occasionally to GE MRO sites to support customer research and product testing.
