Job summary

SSTL is seeking a Mechanisms Functional Manager in Guildford to lead the mechanisms function and oversee delivery of complex electro‑mechanical projects. You will work with Mechanisms Experts and Project Managers to ensure quality, schedule adherence and cost controls across current and future mechanisms work.

You will guide design policies, mentor engineers and ensure that performance indicators and risk reviews are used to drive continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications

• Track record in spacecraft or high‑reliability engineering.
• Experience diagnosing issues across hardware, software and firmware.
• Background in mechanical design with tolerancing and materials knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee delivery of mechanisms projects with risk and cost controls.
• Guide design policies and ensure consistent application across teams.
• Lead cross‑functional collaboration with Mechanisms Experts and Project Managers.
• Mentor staff and develop team capabilities in mechanism design and integration.
• Review work packages to ensure feasibility and alignment with SSTL practices.
• Identify resource needs and resolve capability conflicts early.
• Coordinate with other functional leads to address technical issues.
• Maintain a top‑level roadmap for mechanisms capabilities.
