Job summary

Supply Star Recruitment Limited is recruiting for a Mechanics Learning Mentor in Coventry on behalf of a provision. The role starts via a probationary period with a permanent contract on successful completion.

You will support students during practical mechanics sessions and work alongside the Mechanics Instructor to provide targeted support while promoting safety and engagement. The successful candidate will hold a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Mechanics or a related field, possess industry

• Requires Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Mechanics, Automotive Engineering or related field.
• Industry experience in mechanics, vehicle maintenance or automotive technology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, supportive and encouraging approach with young people.
• Willingness to learn about supporting students with SEMH needs.

Responsibilities

• Support students during practical mechanics sessions, helping them develop skills and confidence in areas such as vehicle maintenance, engine systems, diagnostics, hydraulics and safe working practices.
• Work with the Mechanics Instructor to provide individual and small-group support to learners.
• Build positive relationships with students to encourage engagement, motivation and independence.
• Act as a positive role model, supporting personal development alongside vocational learning.
• Prepare workshop materials, tools and equipment for practical sessions.
• Ensure workshop equipment is maintained, organised and used safely per health and safety procedures.
• Monitor student engagement and progress, providing feedback to the teaching team.
• Support students with SEMH needs to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.
• Collaborate with teachers and professionals to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Desirable

• Familiarity with vocational qualifications such as BTEC or City & Guilds.
• Health & Safety certification (e.g. COSHH, First Aid).
