Job summary

SNC Mission Systems UK in St Athan is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our aerospace and defence manufacturing team. You will perform mechanical assembly, fitting and integration in line with engineering drawings, work instructions and safety standards to deliver high-quality systems.

You will read drawings, use measuring tools and hand tools, and work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and improve processes.

Qualifications

• To qualify for the role, essential: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Apprenticeship in a related engineering trade.
• Experience in mechanical assembly, fitting or manufacturing environments, reading engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience using measuring equipment and hand tools.
• Mechanical assembly and fitting techniques.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Knowledge of quality and inspection requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical assembly, fitting, installation and integration on aerospace and defence products.
• Assemble components, sub-assemblies and complete systems per approved procedures.
• Conduct inspections and self-verification to ensure quality and engineering compliance.
• Support testing, fault diagnosis and rectification as required.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Production to resolve issues.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, tooling and workplace organisation.

Mechanical Technician

We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join us at SNC Mission Systems UK in St Athan. We providetailored mission systems integration and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions for the UK Government and its allies.

It is an exciting time to join SNC Missions UK as we are expanding, you will get stuck in supporting the manufacture, assembly, integration, maintenance and testing of aerospace and defence systems and equipment. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for performing mechanical assembly and fitting activities in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, quality standards and health & safety requirements, ensuring products are delivered safely, on time and to the required quality standards.

No two days will be the same as you:

• Carry out mechanical assembly, fitting, installation and integration activities on aerospace and defence products.

• Assemble mechanical components, sub-assemblies and complete systems in accordance with approved procedures.

• Conduct inspections and self-verification activities to ensure compliance with quality standards and engineering requirements.

• Support testing, fault diagnosis and rectification activities as required.

• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Production teams to resolve assembly and build issues.

• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, tooling and workplace organisation.

To qualify for the role, it is essential you have:

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related technical discipline. Apprenticeship completion in a relevant engineering trade

• Experience in mechanical assembly, fitting or manufacturing environments, reading engineering drawings and technical documentation.

• Experience using measuring equipment and hand tools

• Mechanical assembly and fitting techniques.

• Understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances.

• Knowledge of quality and inspection requirements.

Ideally, you also have:

• HNC/HND in an engineering discipline.

• Additional technical or aerospace-related certifications.

• Experience within aerospace, defence, military, automotive or other highly regulated industries. Experience supporting testing or integration activities.

• Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing standards.

• Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Experience supporting new product introduction activities.
