About the role:

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at Wargrave Sewage Treatment Works (STW). Your role will be to ensure all equipment at our waste treatment works operates safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods, helping to keep the site running smoothly.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact by actively reducing pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
  1. Investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
  2. Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees if required.
  3. Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, VSDs, valves, flow, level, and pressure measurement systems, PLCs, variable speed drives, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  4. Complete statutory checks as required.
  5. Work safely and comply with all health and safety guidance and procedures.
What you should bring to the role
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A valid driving license.
  • Experience in electrical systems, ideally with an 18th Edition qualification, is preferred but not essential.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, with appropriate training.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and issues.
  • Experience as a time-served apprentice in electrical systems, preferably in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Participation in a 24/7 standby rota after training, with additional pay.
Base Location:

Wargrave - RG10 8DJ

Working Pattern:

38 hours Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus standby and overtime, with potential earnings of £8,000-£10,000 extra per year after training.

All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.

  • Respond quickly to faults, understand problems fully, and resolve them efficiently.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be proactive in suggesting improvements and communicate effectively.
  • Be willing to undergo safety training.
