Job summary

VolkerWessels UK is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support major Anglian Water projects. You will manage mechanical packages from design through installation, coordinating with the Mechanical Lead to ensure safe, on-time, within-budget delivery.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical installation, subcontractor management and site supervision, with a focus on quality and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification (BEng, HNC, HND or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience delivering electrical works in utilities or water sectors is highly desirable.
  • Experience in subcontractor and package management is essential.
  • Mechanical equipment installation and inspection experience is needed.
  • Site supervision experience is required.
  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills are essential.
  • CSCS card holder is required; SMSTS is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical procurement packages from specification through to installation, commissioning and handover.
  • Produce scopes of work and manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure project delivery.
  • Oversee equipment selection (pumps, valves, penstocks, lifting equipment) and mechanical systems.
  • Monitor costs, programme performance and project risks to achieve targets.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces across the project team.
  • Carry out site surveys, FATs, SATs and witness testing to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Review and approve subcontractor designs, technical submissions and installation docs.
  • Manage defects, maintenance and project close-out during defects liability period.
  • Support planning, reporting and change management activities.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and quality compliance throughout delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Support commissioning, testing and handover activities to ensure successful project completion.

Job description

About you

About the role

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, working closely with the Mechanical Lead, you will be responsible for the delivery and technical governance of mechanical packages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. You will manage mechanical procurement packages throughout the full project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to installation.
