Job summary

Protec Fire and Security Group is looking for a project engineer/manager to lead sprinkler small works from initial enquiry through final accounts. You will work with the small works manager to deliver the project efficiently and profitably, ensuring key milestones and financial targets are met.

You will manage on-site installation, health and safety, client meetings, and progress reporting. Detailed programmes will be prepared, and you will travel across the UK with occasional European visits

Qualifications

• Experience in construction project engineering or management – essential.
• Experience within sprinkler or water mist suppression project engineering or management – desirable.
• Knowledge of current British Standards and Regulations (LPC 12845, BS 8489, BS 9251, NFPA, FM Global).
• Knowledge of sprinkler equipment and installation.

Responsibilities

• Handle sprinkler small works installation from enquiry to final accounts, working with the small works manager.
• Assume responsibility for on-site installation, health and safety, progress updates and reports, and QA checks.
• Prepare detailed programmes of work to meet deadlines and contract requirements, liaising with suppliers, design engineers and subcontractors.
• Travel within the UK and visit European suppliers as necessary for the role.
• Report deviations or nonconformities from scope, standards or contract.

Job description

This is an opportunity to join a growing diverse team within an expanding sector of the fire industry. Current and forthcoming projects cover public and private sectors; including custodial, healthcare, hotels, retail and residential; and range in value from £10k to £150k+. Projects are located nationwide and a degree of flexibility in working location may be required. Protec cover all travel and accommodation expenses. Typical Responsibilities

• To expertly handle sprinkler small works installation from initial enquiry through to final accounts working along side the small works manager.
• Assume specific financial control of projects, delivering the works efficiently and profitably, including responsibility for raising purchase and subcontract orders.
• Effectively manage the installation work on site; attending regular client meetings; having responsibility for health and safety; producing progress updates and reports; and completion of project quality assurance checks.
• Prepare and communicate detailed programmes of work to ensure deadlines and contract requirements are met.
• Liaise with suppliers, design, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and information flow, and accurately report to clients, contractors and governing bodies as necessary and reporting into the small works manager.
• Negotiate, produce small works quotations for contract variations with aid of the small works manager.
• Able to prepare technical reports and submittals including operating and maintenance manuals and handover documents, by collating and presenting relevant information.
• Identify and report deviations or nonconformities from scope, Standards or contract.
• Ability to travel within the UK and visit European suppliers as necessary for the role.
• Any other duties commensurate with the role.

Qualifications

• GCSE in Maths and English
• Mechanical engineering qualification
• NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management
• CSCS Construction Skills Card
• Health and Safety Qualification, IOSH, SMSTS, etc.

Experience

• Experience of construction project engineering or management - Essential
• Experience within sprinkler or water mist suppression project engineering or management - Desirable
• Knowledge of current relevant suppression British Standards and Regulations, including LPC 12845, BS 8489, BS 9251, NFPA, FM Global - Desirable
• Knowledge of sprinkler equipment and installation

• Competent using Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and PowerPoint

• Ability to communicate effectively with staff at varying levels throughout the company and externally
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to supervise and lead a team to produce desired project deliverables
• Reporting and analysing project KPIs and CTCs to management
