Job summary

Protec Camerfield requires a self-motivated project manager to oversee sprinkler or water mist systems from enquiry to final account and warranty. You will lead on-site activities, ensure safety, and report to clients and management across diverse projects nationwide.

Travel across the UK is required; training, further qualifications and a bonus scheme will be offered to the successful candidate, with opportunity to grow within a expanding fire industry team.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Maths and English required, plus a mechanical engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Handle sprinkler or water mist installation contracts from enquiry to final accounts.
• Maintain full financial control of projects, including purchase and subcontract orders.
• Manage on-site installation work, attend client meetings, oversee health and safety, produce progress reports and QA checks.
• Prepare detailed programmes of work to meet deadlines and contract requirements.
• Liaise with suppliers, design teams, engineers and subcontractors to ensure timely information flow and reporting.
• Negotiate and produce quotations for contract variations.
• Travel within the UK and visit European suppliers as necessary.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with the role.

Job description

Protec Camerfield require a self-motivated individual who can manage all aspects of mechanical sprinkler or water mist suppression systems. The role requires a pro-active and pragmatic individual who can work alone and part of a team to collaborate with all relevant contributors for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the systems with excellent communication and quality results to our customers. The project manager will have direct involvement from pre-order through to final account and warranty period. This is an opportunity to join a growing diverse team within an expanding sector of the fire industry. Current and forthcoming projects cover public and private sectors; including custodial, healthcare, hotels, retail and residential; and range in value from £10k to £5M. Projects are located nationwide and a degree of flexibility in working location may be required. Protec cover all travel and accommodation expenses. Training, further qualifications and bonus scheme will be offered to the successful candidate.

Typical Responsibilities

• To expertly handle sprinkler or water mist installation contracts from initial enquiry through to final accounts.
• Assume full financial control of projects, delivering the works efficiently and profitably, including responsibility for raising purchase and subcontract orders.
• Effectively manage the installation work on site; attending regular client meetings; having responsibility for health and safety; producing progress updates and reports; and completion of project quality assurance checks.
• Prepare and communicate detailed programmes of work to ensure deadlines and contract requirements are met.
• Liaise with suppliers, design, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and information flow, and accurately report to clients, contractors and governing bodies as necessary.
• Negotiate, monitor, and produce quotations for contract variations.
• Highlight possible problem areas at the earliest opportunity and obtain commercial advice where necessary.
• Prepare technical reports and submittals including operating and maintenance manuals and handover documents, by collating and presenting relevant information.
• Identify and report deviations or nonconformities from scope, Standards or contract.
• Ability to travel within the UK, and visit European suppliers as necessary for the role.
• Any other duties commensurate with the role.

Qualifications

• GCSE in Maths and English
• Mechanical engineering qualification
• NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management
• CSCS Construction Skills Card
• Health and Safety Qualification, IOSH, SMSTS, etc.

Experience

• Experience of construction project engineering or management
• Experience within sprinkler or water mist suppression project engineering or management
• Knowledge of current relevant suppression British Standards and Regulations, including LPC 12845, BS 8489, BS 9251, NFPA, FM Global
• Knowledge of sprinkler or water mist equipment and installation

• Competent using Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and PowerPoint

• Read and understand engineering drawings, layouts, and plans
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff at varying levels throughout the company and externally
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to supervise and lead a team to produce desired project deliverables
• Reporting and analysing project KPIs and CTCs to management
