Job summary

Proactive Global is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our Kettering site. This shift-based role focuses on reactive maintenance, fault finding, and rapid, safe repairs to minimise production downtime.

You'll diagnose faults on mechanical and electrical systems and service production machinery while adhering to health and safety standards and coordinating with the engineering team.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering reactive maintenance in a manufacturing/industrial setting.
• Proven fault-finding skills on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose faults quickly and perform effective repairs.
• Experience with production machinery including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, pneumatics.

Responsibilities

Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire
Salary: £54000-£56000+ Bonus + Good Pension
Shift: 8 hour shift rotation, lots of time off
Employment: Permanent

Maintenance Engineer

The Role

We are working with an award-winning manufacturer that is looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join its engineering team on a shift-based pattern.

This is a hands‑on, reactive maintenance role, where the main responsibility will be responding to breakdowns and getting production machinery back up and running as quickly and safely as possible.

The role would suit a Maintenance Engineer who enjoys fault finding, diagnosing problems and carrying out repairs in a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond quickly to mechanical and electrical breakdowns across the manufacturing site.
• Diagnose faults and identify the root cause of machinery failures.
• Carry out reactive maintenance and repairs to minimise production downtime.
• Repair and replace mechanical and electrical components as required.
• Fault find on motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, sensors, pneumatics and other production equipment.
• Work safely and efficiently under pressure during breakdown situations.
• Support production teams by resolving engineering issues promptly.
• Carry out basic adjustments and modifications to machinery where required.
• Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and engineering work.
• Follow all site health and safety procedures and engineering standards.

The Person

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong practical engineering background and the ability to fault find effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

The successful Maintenance Engineer will be confident dealing with breakdowns and be able to diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs with minimal disruption to production.

A multi‑skilled background would be beneficial, with either a mechanical or electrical bias considered.

Skills & Experience

• Previous Maintenance Engineer experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong reactive maintenance and breakdown experience.
• Good mechanical and/or electrical fault‑finding skills.
• Experience working on production machinery.
• Ability to diagnose faults quickly and effectively.
• Experience with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, pneumatics and other industrial machinery.
• Multi‑skilled engineering experience would be advantageous.
• Able to work effectively under pressure.
• Good understanding of health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
