Job summary

Partnership Recruiting is seeking an experienced Mechanical Shift Fitter for a permanent role with a large industrial site near Fort William. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance across production equipment, fault find, and respond to breakdowns to keep the operation safe and efficient.

Working in a rotating shift pattern, you’ll collaborate with the maintenance team and production colleagues to minimise downtime and maintain high workmanship standards, safety, and housekeeping.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Shift Fitter to join a well-established industrial business based in the Fort William area. This is a permanent opportunity to join a busy site maintenance team, providing mechanical maintenance and breakdown support across a wide range of production plant and machinery. Working as part of the shift maintenance team, you will play a key role in keeping the site running safely and efficiently. The position will involve a mixture of planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and responding to machinery breakdowns.

The Role

As Mechanical Shift Fitter, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across production equipment and machinery.
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing repairs to minimise production downtime.
• Responding promptly to breakdowns across production lines.
• Installing and replacing mechanical components including chain drives, gear motors, valves and pumps.
• Completing planned maintenance inspections and identifying potential faults before they result in breakdowns.
• Working closely with production and other maintenance personnel to ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and housekeeping.

About You

We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical engineering or maintenance background, ideally gained within a manufacturing, production, processing or other industrial environment. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a maintenance team and have a practical, hands-on approach to fault finding and problem solving.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a mechanical maintenance, mechanical fitter or similar engineering role.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
• Experience working with industrial plant and machinery.
• A good understanding of planned and preventative maintenance.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic confidence using computer-based maintenance systems and software.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to breakdown situations.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
