Job summary

Morson Group is recruiting a Mechanical Inspector for our Bolton site on a 12‑month contract. The role runs 37 hours per week with a base salary of £21.63 per hour PAYE (£29.02 Umbrella) rising to £22.63 PAYE (£30.38 Umbrella) plus a 33% night shift allowance.

You will certify products, inspect assemblies and maintain quality records to support continuous process improvement. Key responsibilities include supervising certification operators and ensuring compliance with manufacturing standards,

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship-based entry routes for manufacturing roles.
  • City & Guilds Parts 1-3 qualifications.
  • TR23 ONC/City & Guilds Parts 1-3 route in FE.
  • NVQ Level 3 with FE; BTEC ONC/HNC.
  • IPC 610 certification or relevant training is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Certify products in accordance with established procedures.
  • Inspect assemblies for correct construction and workmanship.
  • Assess finish to identify defects such as paint imperfections or surface damage.
  • Detect and report any physical damage during manufacturing.
  • Supervise and support product certification operators.
  • Verify and complete all documentation associated with the manufacturing data pack.
  • Maintain defect reports and records for traceability.
  • Prepare inspection reports and quality control documentation.

Job description

Morson is partnering with one of the UK’s leading Defence Manufacturers to recruit a Mechanical Inspector to join the team at our Bolton site.

  • 12-Month Contract
  • 37 Hours per Week
  • Salary: £21.63 rising to £22.63 PAYE (£29.02 rising to £30.38 Umbrella) plus Night Shift Allowance – 33%
Key Responsibilities
  • Certify products in accordance with established product certification procedures.
  • Inspect assemblies to ensure correct construction and outstanding workmanship.
  • Assess the finish of all components to identify defects such as poor finishing, paint imperfections, or surface damage.
  • Detect and report any physical damage throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct intermediate inspections for non-certification checks.
  • Supervise and support product certification operators effectively.
  • Accurately verify and complete all documentation related to the manufacturing data pack.
  • Segregate defective items from conforming products to maintain quality standards.
  • Compile and maintain detailed defect reports and relevant records.
  • Prepare inspection reports, quality control documentation, and history sheets as required.
  • Handle and maintain specialised inspection equipment with care and precision.
  • Ensure continuous product certification and approval through regular audits.
  • Comply fully with all manufacturing procedures to guarantee adherence to standards.
  • Meet inspection deadlines while maintaining an efficient workflow.
  • Utilise a versatile skill set across diverse tasks to support production requirements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of workmanship and product quality.
  • Promote a safe, organised, and accessible working environment.
  • Contribute proactively to continuous process improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Approved Apprenticeship, Apprenticeship Framework, or Modern Apprenticeship.
  • Vocational G or H Units with Further Education; City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3.
  • Vocational TR23 Units with Further Education; ONC or City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3.
  • Vocational NVQ Level 3 with Further Education; BTEC ONC/HNC.
  • Proven experience as a skilled operative within a manufacturing environment.
  • IPC 610 certification or relevant training is desirable.
