Job summary

Shillito Group in Thatcham is seeking a Mechanical Fitters Mate to join an established engineering business supplying specialist equipment across the UK. The role is site-based at Thatcham and permanent, with a starting salary around £28,500.

You will dismantle and assemble mechanical systems, predominantly ductwork and ventilation equipment, and perform inspections, fault finding and basic reporting on existing systems. Training will be provided to develop your skills on site.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical engineering, maintenance, ventilation or ductwork, HVAC, mechanical installation, or plant/manufacturing environments.
• Engineering apprenticeship or BTEC/NVQ/HNC or similar qualification.
• Mechanical-minded, reliable and willing to learn; ability to stick at it when things get difficult.
• Right attitude and solid engineering foundation to develop technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Dismantling and assembling mechanical systems
• Working mainly with ductwork, fans and ventilation equipment
• Carrying out inspections and identifying faults
• Producing short reports on existing ventilation systems
• Completing preventative maintenance on plant and equipment
• Using hand tools, machinery and site equipment safely
• Supporting other engineering disciplines when required
• Following site procedures and health, safety, quality and environmental requirements
• Working closely with the wider engineering team on customer sites
