Job summary

Shillito Group in Thatcham is seeking a Mechanical Fitters Mate to join an established engineering business supplying specialist equipment across the UK. The role is site-based at Thatcham and permanent, with a starting salary around £28,500.

You will dismantle and assemble mechanical systems, predominantly ductwork and ventilation equipment, and perform inspections, fault finding and basic reporting on existing systems. Training will be provided to develop your skills on site.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical engineering, maintenance, ventilation or ductwork, HVAC, mechanical installation, or plant/manufacturing environments.
• Engineering apprenticeship or BTEC/NVQ/HNC or similar qualification.
• Mechanical-minded, reliable and willing to learn; ability to stick at it when things get difficult.
• Right attitude and solid engineering foundation to develop technical skills.

If you have the right engineering education behind you, a good attitude and the perseverance to learn, this could work well. You do not need to know everything from day one, but the right attitude is key.

What we are looking for

You could already have experience within:

Alternatively, you may be earlier in your career with an engineering apprenticeship, BTEC, NVQ, HNC or similar qualification.

What matters most is that you are mechanically minded, reliable, willing to learn and prepared to stick at it when things get difficult.
