Job summary

Our client in Nottingham is seeking an interim Mechanical Fitter to support a large-scale engineering and maintenance function.

You will carry out planned maintenance, diagnose faults on conveyors, pumps and gearboxes, read drawings, and help improve plant reliability while adhering to health and safety procedures. This days-based, site-based role offers a negotiable salary and free parking.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance.
• Experience as Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or Mechanical Technician in manufacturing/recycling/heavy industrial environments.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Familiar with health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and processing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, shredders, crushers and associated plant machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
• Install, maintain and replace mechanical components as required.
• Conduct routine inspections and report potential issues before failure occurs.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals.
• Work with teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
• Maintain maintenance records using a CMMS or similar system.
• Support site improvement projects, equipment upgrades and new installations.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with contractor management and oversee external maintenance activities.

Our client is a leading recycling and resource recovery business in Nottingham operating a large-scale engineering and maintenance function. They are looking for an interim Mechanical Fitter.

Job Description

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and processing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, shredders, crushers, and associated plant machinery.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
• Install, maintain, and replace mechanical components and equipment as required.
• Conduct routine inspections of machinery and report potential issues before failure occurs.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using a CMMS or maintenance management system.

The Successful Applicant

• NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance.
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or Mechanical Technician within a manufacturing, recycling, waste management, process, or heavy industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including bearings, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Experience conducting fault-finding and breakdown repairs.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.
• Welding and fabrication experience would be advantageous.
• Can commute to Nottingham
