Job summary

Adepto Technical Recruitment Ltd in Essex seeks a Mechanical Fitter (Days) for an on-site, dayshift position. You will be responsible for plant maintenance and improvements to ensure reliable and safe operation.

Key tasks include preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis on conveyors and equipment, and maintaining records. The role requires collaboration with maintenance and production teams and a willingness to work extra hours during outages.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Certificate / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
• BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification.
• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally within a process industry, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• IOSH Working Safely qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs and reactive breakdown work across the site.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance in accordance with the site's CMMS.
• Diagnose faults on conveyors, screws, presses, compressors, bucket elevators and other mechanical equipment.
• Inspect, test and maintain mechanical systems, equipment and components.
• Monitor plant operation, identify potential failures and take action to minimise operational interruptions.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and daily activity logs, including follow-up actions and spare parts requirements.
• Work effectively alongside Mechanical, Instrumentation and Production/Process teams to provide an efficient maintenance service.
• Maintain and repair piping systems, including the correct specification and installation of gaskets, flanges and fixings.
• Install and maintain plastic pipework and associated equipment.
• Carry out drive system alignment using DTI and laser alignment equipment.
• Install, maintain and set various types of mechanical seals.
• Liaise with external service contractors and provide assistance while they are working on site.
• Complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements when required.
• Complete all required training and maintain relevant competencies.
• Provide shift cover and work additional hours during outages, turnarounds or periods of increased business demand.
• Carry out other reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager or Team Leader.
