Job summary

Omega Resource Group in Heanor is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Fitter for an initial 3-month contract on a late shift (2pm – 10pm). You will maintain and repair production and process equipment including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings and related mechanical systems.

The role requires an Apprenticeship / NVQ / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering and proven experience in manufacturing or heavy industry, with strong fault-finding and repair skills.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience working as a Mechanical Fitter within manufacturing, process, heavy industry, recycling, aggregates, chemical, or similar environments.
• Strong fault-finding and repair skills across rotating and conveying equipment.
• Experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
• Strong commitment to health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across site.
• Diagnose and repair faults on conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and associated equipment.
• Perform equipment installations, mechanical upgrades, and improvement work.
• Complete routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities.
• Work closely with operations and engineering teams to minimise downtime.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in line with site procedures.

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a specialist industrial manufacturing site in Heanor on an initial 3-month contract. Working on a permanent late shift, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of production and process equipment including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and associated mechanical systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a unique and highly specialised production environment, supporting the reliability and efficiency of critical plant machinery.
