Are you a skilled Mechanical Fitter with experience in welding, pipe fitting and fabrication?
We are looking for a versatile and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our Process team in Huddersfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a multi-skilled tradesperson who enjoys varied, hands‑on work and takes pride in delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
Working primarily within the combustion and industrial sector, you will be involved in the installation, servicing, repair and manufacture of a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems.

The Role
This is a varied role that combines several skilled engineering disciplines. We’re looking for someone who is adaptable, practical and confident working across these complementary trades.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Fitting
- Install, service and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment
- Work primarily on equipment and systems within the combustion industry
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications
- Align, fit and assemble components using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring equipment
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing on mechanical systems
- Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs
Welding
- Carry out MIG, TIG and stick welding to a high standard
- Join metal components in accordance with drawings and specifications
- Interpret welding symbols and technical drawings
- Follow approved welding procedures and quality standards
- Ideally hold, or have experience of, coded welding qualifications
- Install, repair and maintain industrial piping systems
- Read and interpret piping diagrams and isometric drawings
- Calculate measurements and accurately mark materials for cutting
- Thread, bend and fabricate pipework to specification
- Install valves, fittings and associated piping components
- Test pipe systems for leaks and correct operation
- Ideally hold Gas Safe qualifications
Fabrication
- Manufacture metal products and components from raw materials
- Work from engineering drawings and specifications
- Measure and mark materials accurately for cutting and assembly
- Fabricate structures and components to precise tolerances
- Carry out quality checks to ensure finished work meets the required standards
About You
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated engineer with a strong practical background and the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
Ideally, you will have:
- Completed an apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Mechanical Fitting, Welding, Pipe Fitting or Fabrication
- A minimum of 3–5 years' experience within an industrial or commercial environment
- Experience across more than one trade discipline
- The ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills
- Excellent problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities
- A good understanding of relevant engineering and safety standards
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your workload with minimal supervision
- A positive attitude and commitment to delivering high‑quality work
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have relevant trade qualifications and certifications, including:
- Relevant trade certification or recognised qualification
- Current welding qualifications where applicable – coded welding experience is highly desirable
- Full, valid driving licence
The following would also be advantageous:
- First Aid certification
- Additional trade qualifications or cross‑training across mechanical fitting, welding, fabrication or pipe fitting
This is a hands‑on role within an industrial and manufacturing environment. Depending on project requirements, the role may involve:
- Working in industrial and manufacturing environments
- Exposure to noise, heat and varying weather conditions
- Working at different customer or project sites
- Occasional travel and working away from home
- Overtime when required to support project delivery
- Working in confined spaces where necessary
