Job summary

Argon Engineering Limited in Middleton is seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator / Mechanical Fitter to join its busy engineering team. You will undertake MIG welding, fabrication and mechanical fitting on a range of bespoke components and machinery.

You’ll read engineering drawings, operate lathes/milling machines, repair production equipment and contribute to continuous improvement projects on site. The role offers weekend hours, good pay and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Time-served Welder/Fabricator or completed recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Strong MIG welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience operating manual centre lathes and milling machines.
• Mechanical fitting experience.
• Ability to manufacture components from engineering drawings.
• Experience repairing industrial machinery and production equipment.
• Excellent fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail with pride in producing quality workmanship.
• Flexible approach to support engineering projects and breakdowns.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture bespoke machine components, guards, brackets, frameworks and conveyors.
• Carry out high-quality MIG welding and fabrication work.
• Operate manual centre lathes, milling machines and other workshop machinery.
• Mechanical fitting and assembly of fabricated components.
• Manufacture replacement machine parts from engineering drawings.
• Repair rollers, shafts, bearing housings and other production equipment.
• Support mechanical breakdowns where machining or fabrication expertise is required.
• Assist with machinery installations, modifications and continuous improvement projects.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.

Location: Middleton, Manchester

Salary: £39,000

Shift Pattern: Weekend Shift - Friday to Sunday, 6:00am - 6:00pm

The Company A well‑established manufacturing company is looking to recruit an experienced Welder / Fabricator / Mechanical Fitter to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy manufacturing environment where you’ll be involved in a wide variety of fabrication, welding and mechanical engineering projects, supporting production and continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities
