Job summary

W Talent and a well-established precision engineering business in Huddersfield are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a growing, quality-focused workshop. You will assemble high-spec components, support machine builds, and help deliver precision-engineered products to a global customer base.

You will work with engineers to interpret drawings, maintain equipment, and uphold safety and housekeeping standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship.
• Experience in mechanical fitting or machine assembly in a precision environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and build instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and understanding of tolerances.
• Health and safety conscious.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a hands-on presence, supporting breakdowns and fault-finding.
• Assemble and fit mechanical components using drawings and build specifications.
• Carry out mechanical installations, alignments, and adjustments across machines and equipment.
• Support machine builds, from component preparation to full system assembly.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults with minimal rework or delay.
• Collaborate with engineers to refine builds during prototype and production phases.
• Follow all site Health & Safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised workspace.
• Use hand tools and measurement instruments safely and effectively.

W Talent are partnering with a well-established, globally recognised precision engineering business in Huddersfield to recruit a skilled Mechanical Fitter. The role involves assembling high-specification components, supporting machine builds, and helping deliver reliable, precision-engineered products to a global customer base.

The Role:

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and maintaining complex
mechanical systems and bespoke machinery. Working closely with engineers and project
teams, you'll ensure components are built to exact tolerances and aligned with customer
specifications and technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a hands-on presence, providing support with breakdowns, fault-finding, and critical maintenance when required.
• Assemble and fit mechanical components with precision, using engineering drawings and build specifications.
• Carry out mechanical installations, alignments, and adjustments across a variety of machines and equipment.
• Support machine builds, from individual component preparation to full system assembly.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults, ensuring minimal rework or delay.
• Collaborate with engineers to refine builds and suggest improvements during prototype and

Key Requirements:

• Recognised mechanical engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in mechanical fitting or machine assembly, ideally within a precision
• engineering environment.
• Strong ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and build instructions.
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
• Good understanding of tolerances, fits, and material handling in a precision setting.
• Confident using workshop tools, including torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and
• pneumatic equipment.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop environment.
• Health & Safety awareness and commitment to safe working practices.

Salary and Benefits Package:
