Job description

CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent

SALARY: £40-50,000 inclusive of overtime

CLOSING DATE: 13th May 2025

A vacancy has arisen for a Mechanical Fitter to join our team within our Severn Trent Engineering contract in Derbyshire, Mansfield, Nottingham areas.

The Mechanical Fitter will work independently or as part of a team, including electrical craftsmen, providing service support through planned and reactive maintenance, as well as new plant installations and upgrades under the framework contracts managed by the framework manager. The role requires mechanical qualifications and broader skills, contributing to the wider engineering team as needed.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to HIS/STW SHEQ procedures
  • Perform PPM according to site schedules
  • Conduct RCM activities as per site schedules
  • Execute planned defect repairs on all Mechanical equipment within the HIS Service scope
  • Apply and remove mechanical isolations following PTW systems
  • Perform fault finding activities
  • Identify opportunities for engineering and process control improvements
  • Work from drawings, install, and commission new equipment
  • Diagnose and agree repair processes for plant breakdowns
  • Operate workshop equipment and tools
  • Complete site operational tasks following training, procedures, and supervisor instructions
  • Maintain all necessary documentation, reports, and records
  • Provide professional support to the Client and Engineering team
  • Implement continuous improvements and innovations
  • Ensure work is completed to a high standard
  • Communicate progress and issues with Clients and Framework Manager
  • Promote a proactive safety culture to aim for zero harm
  • Deliver work on time and within scope
Candidate Requirements:
  • Served Apprenticeship or equivalent with at least 2 years' experience on mechanical equipment and installations
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and legislation
  • Understanding of engineering best practices
  • Experience in fault diagnostics and repair solutions
  • Level 3 confined space certification (or ability to pass)
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Willingness to undertake site inductions and safety training
  • Rigging, slinging, and FLT driving skills and qualifications preferred
  • UK Driving Licence with C1 category (3500kg – 7500kg)
  • Positive attitude towards safety
  • Strong team player with an innovative and flexible approach
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Adherence to safety procedures and instructions
