Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for leading the bid team in developing accurate and cost-competitive estimates for the commercial, utility, and water or wastewater industries.

Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to and promote all Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
  2. Attend pre-bid meetings to understand project requirements and objectives.
  3. Contact suppliers and vendors for material and subcontractor pricing.
  4. Clarify project details with clients, engineering, or architectural staff.
  5. Perform quantity takeoffs to build estimate items.
  6. Identify labor and equipment production rates for estimate items.
  7. Evaluate subcontractor and material pricing, and perform scope comparisons.
  8. Research and utilize cost history in developing labor and equipment estimates.
  9. Develop and monitor the project schedule.
  10. Ensure developmental milestones are met by the bid team.
  11. Review project plans and specifications to ensure all items are accounted for and plans are in place for execution.
  12. Conduct bid reviews with the Project Team and/or Estimating Manager.
  13. Present the final estimate at the Executive Review.
  14. Lead the bid team through the estimate closeout process.
  15. Manage the bid team during job turnover and buyout with Operations.
  16. Visit jobsites regularly to maintain project familiarity and knowledge.
  17. Provide technical support, change order pricing, and other assistance to Operations during the project.
  18. Participate in project closeout to compare estimated costs with actual costs.
  19. Stay current on trends, methodologies, and best practices within the construction and estimating fields.
  20. Perform other duties supporting company initiatives.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline with 2+ years' mechanical estimating experience; or 5+ years recent mechanical estimating experience. Experience in commercial construction, utility, water/wastewater industries preferred.
  2. Effective communication skills with clients, executives, and team members for creating and reviewing estimates.
  3. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized under pressure.
  4. Ability to work independently with sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.
  5. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to analyze information and reach sound conclusions.
  8. Financial acumen and understanding of business implications of decisions.
  9. Experience working with engineers/architects, owners, and subcontractors.
  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Sage/Timberline, PlanSwift, ISqFt or similar software.
  11. Valid US Driver's License.
