Job Description
Position Summary
Responsible for leading the bid team in developing accurate and cost-competitive estimates for the commercial, utility, and water or wastewater industries.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and promote all Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
- Attend pre-bid meetings to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Contact suppliers and vendors for material and subcontractor pricing.
- Clarify project details with clients, engineering, or architectural staff.
- Perform quantity takeoffs to build estimate items.
- Identify labor and equipment production rates for estimate items.
- Evaluate subcontractor and material pricing, and perform scope comparisons.
- Research and utilize cost history in developing labor and equipment estimates.
- Develop and monitor the project schedule.
- Ensure developmental milestones are met by the bid team.
- Review project plans and specifications to ensure all items are accounted for and plans are in place for execution.
- Conduct bid reviews with the Project Team and/or Estimating Manager.
- Present the final estimate at the Executive Review.
- Lead the bid team through the estimate closeout process.
- Manage the bid team during job turnover and buyout with Operations.
- Visit jobsites regularly to maintain project familiarity and knowledge.
- Provide technical support, change order pricing, and other assistance to Operations during the project.
- Participate in project closeout to compare estimated costs with actual costs.
- Stay current on trends, methodologies, and best practices within the construction and estimating fields.
- Perform other duties supporting company initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline with 2+ years' mechanical estimating experience; or 5+ years recent mechanical estimating experience. Experience in commercial construction, utility, water/wastewater industries preferred.
- Effective communication skills with clients, executives, and team members for creating and reviewing estimates.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized under pressure.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze information and reach sound conclusions.
- Financial acumen and understanding of business implications of decisions.
- Experience working with engineers/architects, owners, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Sage/Timberline, PlanSwift, ISqFt or similar software.
- Valid US Driver's License.
