Job summary

Avolon M&E, a building services contractor based in Uxbridge, West London, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to own tenders from enquiry to submission and drive commercially viable proposals.

You will review drawings, prepare cost estimates, price Design & Build bids, and collaborate with suppliers and clients to support project delivery and growth.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Mechanical Estimator within an M&E or building services contractor.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services installations.
• Experience pricing Design & Build tenders.
• Confident interpreting drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Experience using mechanical estimating software.
• Good commercial awareness including margins, risk allowances and tender strategy.
• Strong communication skills with client meetings and tender presentations.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Proactive, ambitious approach contributing to business growth.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to submission.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project requirements.
• Produce accurate measurements, take-offs and detailed cost estimates for mechanical building services installations.
• Prepare competitive tenders for Design & Build and specification-led projects.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate quotations.
• Identify design, specification and scope gaps, raising technical queries and clarifications where necessary.
• Assess project risks, preliminaries, margins and commercial considerations.
• Prepare and present tender submissions to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Manage multiple tenders simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are achieved.
• Work collaboratively with the wider commercial and operational teams to support successful project delivery.

The Opportunity

Avolon M&E are working with an established and growing building services contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their team based in Uxbridge.

Our client delivers mechanical, electrical and associated building services packages across the UK and continues to expand its project portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Mechanical Estimator who enjoys taking ownership of tenders, working closely with clients and contributing directly to the continued growth of a business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, ensuring accurate, competitive and commercially viable proposals.

Experience & Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Mechanical Estimator within an M&E or mechanical building services contractor.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services installations.
• Experience preparing and pricing Design & Build tenders.

• Experience using mechanical estimating software.
• Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of project margins, risk allowances and tender strategy.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to attend client meetings and present tenders.
