Job summary

Streamline Search is assisting a well-established building services company to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator who will own the estimating process from initial enquiry through tender submission.

You will analyse drawings, carry out take-offs, prepare bills of quantities and build up rates for labour, plant and materials, while coordinating with clients, subcontractors and internal teams to deliver competitive, profitable bids.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in construction/building services.
  • Strong mechanical background with ability to read/specify technical drawings.
  • Experience preparing detailed tenders, take-offs and rate build-ups.
  • Strong commercial awareness with ability to obtain and analyse subcontractor quotations.
  • Good understanding of mechanical materials, products and installation requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders to tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant estimating systems.
  • Flexible, proactive and commercially minded approach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through tender submission.
  • Analyse tender drawings, specifications and contract documentation to establish project requirements and commercial risks.
  • Undertake detailed take-offs, prepare bills of quantities and build up rates for labour, plant and materials.
  • Manage supply chain enquiries, obtaining and analysing competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, designers and internal teams throughout the tendering process.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and value engineering to improve project value and profitability.
  • Ensure cost planning and estimating accurately reflect project requirements and risk profile.
  • Prepare and present completed tenders for Director approval and client submission.
  • Support commercial management through valuations, variations, cost value analysis and final accounts.
  • Identify and support the management of project risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company procedures, QEMS and health and safety standards.

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 depending on experience (Plus car allowance)

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to take ownership of the estimating process and play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive and profitable tenders.

Mechanical Estimator - Position Overview
  • Manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
