Job summary

• Support tender reviews and bid submissions within deadlines.

• Contribute to improving estimating processes and tender strategies.

Salary: £70,000–£100,000, dependent on experience

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home

Mechanical Estimator – Data Centres & Critical Infrastructure

We are supporting a leading engineering organisation delivering large-scale data centre developments and mission-critical infrastructure projects across the UK.

They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support the preparation of accurate cost estimates and competitive tender submissions across complex mechanical building services projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a strong mechanical background to work on technically challenging, large-scale developments within the data centre and critical infrastructure sectors, with the flexibility of a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates for large-scale engineering and construction projects.
• Carry out accurate measurements and quantity take-offs from technical drawings and project specifications.
• Review mechanical drawings, tender documentation and scope requirements to establish project costs.
• Develop competitive tender pricing, ensuring accuracy and commercial viability.
• Estimate mechanical building services packages, including HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling infrastructure, pipework and associated plant.
• Identify commercial risks, project variations and opportunities for cost optimisation.
• Liaise with engineering, commercial and project delivery teams to ensure accurate tender submissions.
• Support tender reviews, pricing exercises and bid submissions within agreed deadlines.
• Interpret complex drawings and technical documentation for major data centre and mission-critical developments.
• Contribute to the improvement of estimating processes, cost plans and tendering strategies.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the construction, building services or engineering sectors.
• Strong understanding of mechanical building services and associated systems.
• Experience in measurements, quantity take-offs, cost planning and tender preparation.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Experience working on data centres, mission-critical environments or large-scale critical infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and work to tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
