Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc in Inchinnan, Glasgow, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a permanent, full-time role, supporting design, development and through-life engineering of our product range across defence and commercial environments.

You will design innovative solutions, collaborate with internal teams to meet customer and business requirements, and ensure projects stay on time and budget while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and calculations.
• Experience applying DF(M)A principles to product development.
• Ability to take designs from concept through prototype, testing and production release.
• Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials and production techniques.
• Understanding of gas and fluid systems in engineered products.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver innovative engineering solutions for new products and through-life support.
• Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, Production and Project Management to meet customer and business requirements.
• Source materials and maintain accurate BOMs and part numbers.
• Produce and review engineering drawings, specifications, assembly instructions, test procedures, and documentation.
• Ensure activities meet quality, safety and compliance standards.
• Travel to JFD sites, customer locations and supplier facilities to support projects.
