We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in complex enclosure design to join our defence client based in Buckinghamshire.

Role overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate with specialists from other engineering disciplines, providing mechanical design expertise to support business opportunities. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, developing technology, creating concept designs for new products, and preparing bids and proposals.

Key responsibilities

1. Generating concept design proposals and feasibility studies to support product development programs
2. Carrying out elements of product design
3. Contributing to the development of engineering excellence within the business
4. Providing mechanical engineering expertise in support of future business opportunities

Qualifications / Skills required

• A degree or higher in mechanical engineering
• Broad knowledge of engineering aspects such as systems, electrical, electro-mechanical, and rotating machinery
• Experience with manufacturing methods applicable to electrical enclosures, including metal fabrications, castings, welding, machining, and corrosion protection
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Inventor
• Good knowledge of materials
• Understanding of design lifecycle processes, such as gated design phases and design reviews
• Experience designing to strict requirements like shock, EMC, and thermal
• Strong communication skills and confidence in presenting to customers
• Experience in Defence/Aerospace or safety-regulated environments (advantageous)
• Experience in the Naval/Maritime domain (advantageous)

Self-driven, able to manage workload under challenging timescales, eager to learn, and willing to shape future engineering practices.
