Job summary

Osborne Appointments in Kettering is seeking two experienced Mechanical Engineers to join a fast-paced, high-speed production environment. This is a 3–6 month temporary assignment with a genuine opportunity to secure a permanent position.

You will perform planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and drive improvements in equipment reliability. A recognised engineering qualification and hands-on fabrication/welding skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Recognised Engineering qualification.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with high-speed production/mfcg machinery.
• Flexible to the rotating shift pattern.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across high-speed production equipment.
• Responding to breakdowns and minimising production downtime.
• Fault finding, diagnosing mechanical issues and carrying out repairs.
• Completing daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks.
• Working to improve equipment reliability and line efficiency.
• Prioritising maintenance to maximise production output.
• Supporting other engineers and sharing knowledge.
• Carrying out effective shift handovers and communicating issues.
• Carrying out fabrication and welding where required.
• Working safely and following Health & Safety procedures.

Location: Kettering

Pay: £28.00 per hour

Permanent Salary: Circa £53,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time, rotating shift pattern

Contract: 3–6 months temporary, with a genuine opportunity to become permanent

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for two experienced Mechanical Engineers to join our client’s established engineering team within a fast-paced, high-speed production environment in Kettering.

This is initially a 3–6 month temporary assignment, however there is a genuine opportunity for the right candidates to secure a permanent position, subject to performance and fit within the team.

The permanent equivalent salary is circa £53,000 per annum.

Shift Pattern

• 2 morning shifts – 6:00am to 2:30pm
• 2 afternoon shifts – 2:00pm to 10:30pm
• 2 night shifts – 10:00pm to 6:30am
• Followed by 4 days off

Duties of a Mechanical Engineer

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across high-speed production equipment
• Responding to breakdowns and working quickly to minimise production downtime
• Fault finding, diagnosing mechanical issues and carrying out repairs
• Completing daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks
• Working proactively to improve equipment reliability and line efficiency
• Prioritising maintenance activity to maximise production output
• Supporting other engineers and sharing technical knowledge across the team
• Completing effective shift handovers and communicating ongoing engineering issues
• Carrying out fabrication and welding where required
• Working safely and ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are followed

What we would like from you

• Previous experience working as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar
• Previous engineering experience within a high-speed production, manufacturing or FMCG environment is essential
• A recognised Engineering qualification
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Experience working on production machinery and equipment
• Fabrication and welding skills
• A proactive and hands-on approach
• Ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team
• Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern
• Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous, although this is a mechanically focused position
