Job Advert in Kettering is seeking two Mechanical Engineers for a 3-6 month temp-to-perm role in a fast-paced, high-speed production environment. You will perform planned maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimise downtime, with a genuine path to permanent employment and a salary around £53k per annum.

The role requires a recognised engineering qualification, strong fault-finding skills, and a readiness to work rotating shifts, including mornings, afternoons and nights.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
• Experience in high-speed production, manufacturing or FMCG environments is essential.
• A recognised Engineering qualification is required.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working on production machinery and equipment.
• Fabrication and welding skills are a plus.
• A proactive, hands-on approach and ability to work in a team.
• Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern.
• Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous, though role is mechanical-focused.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on high-speed production equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime.
• Fault finding, diagnosing mechanical issues and repairs; complete maintenance tasks.
• Improve equipment reliability and line efficiency.

Mechanical Engineer - Temp to Perm
Location: Kettering
Pay: £28.00 per hour
Permanent Salary: Circa £53,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, rotating shift pattern
Contract: 3-6 months temporary, with a genuine opportunity to become permanent

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for two experienced Mechanical Engineers to join our client's established engineering team within a fast-paced, high-speed production environment in Kettering.

This is initially a 3-6 month temporary assignment, however there is a genuine opportunity for the right candidates to secure a permanent position, subject to performance and fit within the team.

The permanent equivalent salary is circa £53,000 per annum.

Shift Pattern:

• 2 morning shifts - 6:00am to 2:30pm
• 2 afternoon shifts - 2:00pm to 10:30pm
• 2 night shifts - 10:00pm to 6:30am
• Followed by 4 days off

Duties of a Mechanical Engineer:

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across high-speed production equipment
• Responding to breakdowns and working quickly to minimise production downtime
• Fault finding, diagnosing mechanical issues and carrying out repairsCompleting daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks
• Working proactively to improve equipment reliability and line efficiency
• Prioritising maintenance activity to maximise production output
• Supporting other engineers and sharing technical knowledge across the team
• Completing effective shift handovers and communicating ongoing engineering issues
• Carrying out fabrication and welding where required
• Working safely and ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are followed

  What we would like from you:

  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar
  • Previous engineering experience within a high-speed production, manufacturing or FMCG environment is essential
  • A recognised Engineering qualification
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working on production machinery and equipment
  • Fabrication and welding skills
  • A proactive and hands‑on approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team
  • Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern
  • Some electrical knowledge would be advantageous, although this is a mechanically focused position

  All tools required for the position will be provided on site.
