Job summary

Stirling Warrington Ltd in Barnsley is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our busy manufacturing site. This hands-on role covers maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on a range of production machinery to keep lines running safely and efficiently.

You will work a 4-shift rota, with a permanent contract and a £36,000 salary. The role requires NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in mechanical engineering and at least four years’ industrial maintenance experience, plus strong

Qualifications

• A relevant NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years' industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong fault-finding skills and experience with gearboxes and mechanical systems.
• Experience using CMMS and performing both PPM and reactive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on production machinery and equipment.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose and resolve machine breakdowns quickly and effectively.
• Fault find on mechanical systems including gearboxes and related machinery.
• Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and circuits.
• Record maintenance activities accurately using a CMMS.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Barnsley

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy manufacturing site in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer looking to develop their career within a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment.

Working as part of a dedicated maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and fault-finding on a wide range of production machinery and plant equipment. You will play a key role in reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability and ensuring production continues to operate safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on mechanical maintenance role suited to someone who enjoys diagnosing faults, solving technical problems and keeping production machinery running reliably.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on production machinery, plant and equipment

• Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise breakdowns and production downtime

• Diagnose and resolve machine breakdowns quickly and effectively

• Fault find on mechanical systems, including gearboxes and associated machinery

• Work with and understand pneumatic and hydraulic systems and circuits

• Liaise effectively with on-site contractors and remote service engineers

• Use a CMMS maintenance system to accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns and completed work

• Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of critical engineering spare parts

• Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives

• Provide guidance and mentor apprentices within the maintenance team

• Work independently and use initiative when responding to breakdowns and technical issues

• Support the wider engineering team with overtime when required

Requirements

To be considered for this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position, you will need:

• A relevant NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, Engineering or a related discipline

• A minimum of 4 years' industrial maintenance experience

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Engineering Technician

• Experience working within a manufacturing, production or industrial engineering environment

• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills

• Experience working with gearboxes, machinery and mechanical systems

• Good understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics

• Experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance

• Experience using CMMS / computerised maintenance management systems

• Ability to diagnose breakdowns efficiently and minimise production downtime

• Good communication skills and the ability to work with contractors and external engineers

• Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and use your own initiative

• Flexibility to work overtime when required to support production

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a 4-shift rota:

• Shift 1: 6:00am - 2:00pm, Monday to Friday

• Shift 2: 2:00pm - 10:00pm, Monday to Friday

• Shift 3: 10:00pm - 6:00am, Monday to Friday

• Shift 4: 6:00am - 4:00pm, Thursday to Sunday
