Job Description:

80787 - Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineer

This Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Design Lead and will work within the Capital Programme based in our London (West Ham - Bidder St) office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after a 6-month probationary period - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose:

Produce Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) designs from a scope provided by Project Managers, Customers, or the Design Lead, including project costings to meet customer requirements for time, quality, and budget. These schemes could be for APP and Connections (non-contestable and contestable) work, following UK Power Networks design standards. Collaborate with Project Managers, other Design Engineers, and the Principal Designer (CDM) to ensure compliance with design, CDM, and standards for regulated network solutions.

Requirements include:

• Undertake feasibility studies, site surveys, and buildability assessments for M&E engineering installations.
• Produce designs compliant with relevant standards and CDM regulations.
• Peer-review designs by other engineers.
• Contribute to technical, commercial, and contractual documentation for procurement.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
• Support and mentor trainee/graduate engineers.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Provide excellent customer service.
• Collaborate with the design team and operational teams from enquiry to commissioning.
• Develop standard designs and site-specific solutions, providing precise specifications.
• Follow CDM regulations and ensure safety and hazard mitigation in designs.
• Coordinate with UKPN designers.

Qualifications:

• Degree in engineering/science or equivalent experience in energy sector.
• Chartered or working towards chartership.
• Background in M&E engineering and utility sector experience.
• Knowledge of safety standards, CDM regulations, and industry developments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bentley software, and project management tools.
• Understanding of site surveying, power engineering equipment, and design calculations.

Scope:

Site visits, including operational substations, with safety compliance.
