Automation Experts Ltd. in Gloucestershire is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to lead a design team delivering bespoke factory automation, SPS machinery, robotics, conveyors and vision inspection systems.

You will own the Mechanical Design function and drive on-time, on-budget delivery to high technical standards. This site-based role requires your own transport due to the rural location, with hours 8-5 Mon-Thu and 8-2 on Fridays, and a focus on continuous improvement, safety

Qualifications

Experience leading a Mechanical Design team.
Strong 3D CAD knowledge with practical design delivery.
Background in automation, special-purpose machinery or robotics.
Experience delivering projects through from concept to manufacture and commissioning.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Commercial awareness and accountability for projects.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a Mechanical Design team.
Provide technical direction, mentoring and performance management.
Oversee mechanical design for bespoke automation and special-purpose machinery.
Manage complex projects from concept through to manufacture, assembly and commissioning.
Plan team workload, resources and project priorities.
Maintain high standards across 3D CAD, drawings, BOMs and design practices.
Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and design efficiency.
Work closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Electrical, Controls and Procurement teams.
Set team objectives, KPIs and development plans.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and to specification.
