Job summary

Workforce Staffing Ltd presents a Mechanical Design Manager opportunity in Gloucestershire, to lead an established design team within a specialist automation and engineering business. This is a hands-on management role combining mechanical design with team leadership, project delivery and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will oversee workload planning, design reviews, and coordination with Manufacturing, Electrical and Controls teams to drive projects from

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience as a Mechanical Designer
• Strong 3D CAD experience
• Experience in automation, special-purpose machinery, robotics or similar
• Proven team leadership/management experience
• Experience managing complex engineering projects
• Experience taking projects from concept through to manufacture, assembly and commissioning
• Understanding of drawings, BOMs and design standards
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Legally eligible to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Mechanical Design team
• Plan workloads, resources and project priorities
• Design bespoke and special-purpose machinery
• Manage projects from concept to manufacture, assembly and commissioning
• Ensure designs meet quality, safety and engineering standards
• Review drawings, BOMs and design documentation
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Electrical Design, Controls, Procurement, PM, customers and suppliers
• Drive continuous improvement across the design function
• Set team objectives and KPIs and support staff development
